He was absolutely amazing at tracking people down, convincing them to aid us, and then investigating the particular circumstances of their situations. In 2014 we finished the last of four annuity class actions in which over 250,000 clients/absent class members were all 65 or older. We would give him a list and contact information for a group of class members and it was his job to win them over, educate them about the case, and secure their commitment to give a deposition or otherwise cooperate. This is a classic "cold call" and it is very difficult. It takes the right combination of skills, patience, knowledge and personality. We were amazed at his success rate - much higher than expected. The key here is that he understands the case issues, he has taken and defended thousands of depositions, and understands the court process which is the case environment.

His analytical skills are excellent. He had to produce reams of memoranda to document the history of his work on the cases, memos that were read by some tough taskmasters. He never disappointed us or a client. In big cases, I trusted him with reviewing boxes of documents looking for that special aspect - something I am usually loathe to do. I remember spending days in L.A. going through thousands of insurance company records and he didn't miss a thing (while I did). The key here is that he is diligent , careful and understands the case and legal issues, unlike a nonlawyer.

He is ideal for employment investigations by insurers and employers, e.g., sexual harrassment claims. We  have also used him for problem situations, like determining who can be trusted, investigating our own client's credibility problems, and finding out what that adverse witness plans to say. We are then covered by the various privileges to protect this information and use it most powerfully.

At the end of the day, there are a lot of smart attorneys with great personalities. What makes Scott stand out is his loyalty, commitment and moral center.
